East Greenbush resident Jude Mulvey retires from New York Army National Guard after 22 years of service

Latham, NY (08/27/2021) — New York Army National Guard Colonel Jude Mulvey, an East Greenbush resident, was recognized for 22 years of service during her retirement ceremony on August 26 at New York National Guard Headquarters in Latham.

Mulvey, an Army lawyer, is a veteran of the Iraq War and most recently deployed to Kuwait in 2020 as the Staff Judge Advocate for the Troy-based 42nd Infantry Division.

She was also part of the New York National Guard response to the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

She is a graduate of Albany Law School and in civilian life serves as chief of administrative law for the Social Security Administration in Albany.

Major General Michel Natali, the Assistant Adjutant General, Army for the New York Army National Guard, praised Mulvey for her service over the years.

He deployed with Mulvey to Tikrit, Iraq in 2005, and she "has always been a calm and steady presence," Natali said.

She has always ensured that commanders, and Soldiers, got the best legal advice she could provide, Natali said.

In her remarks, Mulvey thanked her husband Sean for being there for there for their son and daughter while she was in Iraq, in Kuwait, on state duty, or away for training or an exercise.

"Without that support I would not have been able to stay in," Mulvey said.

She also praised her fellow Army National Guard lawyers for their service and support.

"I can't imagine a better law firm in the entire country than our New York Army National Guard Judge Advocates," she said.

Mulvey was presented the Legion of Merit during her retirement ceremony. The Legion of Merit is presented to mark a career full of significant accomplishments.

She also received the New York State Conspicuous Service Medal.

Mulvey is a graduate of the Army's Judge Advocate Officers Basic and Advanced Course. The Army's Command and General Staff College, and the Staff Judge Advocates Course. She made the commandants list of outstanding officers during her advanced course.

Her assignments have included New York State Staff Judge Advocate, Joint Force Headquarters Staff Judge Advocate, and Trial Counsel for the 42nd Infantry Division, and chief of criminal law for the 42nd Infantry Division.

Her awards also include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the New York State Long and Faithful Service Medal and the New York State Defense of Liberty Medal, presented to those who were part of the 9/11 response.

Mulvey is also a life member of the Rainbow Division Veterans Association.
