Guilderland resident Cody White promoted to Staff Sergeant in New York Army National Guard

Latham, NY (08/09/2019) — Guilderland resident Cody White has been promoted to Staff Sergeant in the New York Army National Guard.

White currently works in the military personnel office at New York Army National Guard headquarters but will be moving to Fort Bragg, North Caroline to work as a squadron non-commissioned officer in charge in the personnel office of the Joint Special Operations Command, Joint Intelligence Brigade.

White was promoted by Lt. Col. James Cahill, New York Army National Guard chief of military personnel during a ceremony on Friday, August 8.

White joined the New York Army National Guard in March 2015 and served as a member of the 427th Brigade Support Battalion from 2015 to July 2017.

He transferred to the New York National Guard's 10th Main Command Post Operational Detachment, or MC-Pod in 2017. The unit is constructed to round out the headquarters of the 10th Mountain Division with additional personnel.

White deployed to Kuwait and Iraq with the 10th Mountain Division from January to November 2018. During that deployment he was named best noncommissioned officer for the combined joint task force for the fall of 2018.

He graduated from the Army Leaders Course, a basic course for sergeants, in February 2019 as the Distinguished Honors Graduate.

White's awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Ribbon, the Operation Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Noncommissioned Offices Professional Development Ribbon and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
