Mamaroneck resident Michael Rodriguez promoted to Colonel in the New York Army National Guard

National Guard officer is a veteran of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan

Camp Smith Training Site, Cortlandt Manor, New York (09/06/2024) — New York Army National Guard Lt. Col. Michael Rodriguez, a Mamaroneck resident, will be promoted to Colonel during a ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 8 at New York National Guard's Camp Smith Training Site near Peekskill.

Rodriguez, an engineer officer, has been serving as the commander of the training site garrison since 2021. He will now move into a position as the chief facility management officer at the New York National Guard's Joint Force Headquarters in Latham.

Rodriguez has 37 years of service as an enlisted Soldier and an officer in both the Active Army and the Army National Guard.

Prior to taking command of the Camp Smith garrison, Rodriguez served as the division engineer for the New York National Guard's 42nd Infantry Division during a 2020 deployment to Kuwait.

Rodriguez was in charge of engineers operating over five countries and conducting 25 projects across the Middle East.

Rodriguez enlisted in the Army in 1987 and served as an Army engineer Soldier for four years. While on active duty he deployed to Panama as part of Operation Just Cause.

He served in the Army Reserve before joined the New York Army National Guard in 1995. He attained the rank of staff sergeant before receiving a commission through Army ROTC in 1999.

He served in a number of leadership positions to include infantry company commander, division operations officer, division protection engineer, and division engineer.

He is a veteran of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and was part of the New York National Guard response to the 2001 attack on the World Trade Center, and the response to Superstorm Sandy.

He has also deployed on missions to Panama, Antigua and Europe.

He holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Fordham University and is a graduate of the Army's Command and General Staff College and Army War College.

His awards include the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Iraq and Afghanistan Campaign Medals, the NATO Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Meritorious Unit Citation, the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Parachutist Badge.

He and his wife Adrianne Cartelli have two children: Marielle and Mateo.
