New Hyde Park resident Capt. Matthew Robbins , takes command of Army National Guard aviation headquarters company

Ronkonkoma, NY (01/15/2019) — New York Army National Guard Capt. Matthew Robbins a New Hyde Park resident took command of the Headquarters Company of the 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation during a ceremony on Saturday, Jan 12 at the unit headquarters in Ronkonkoma, N.Y.

Robbins, age 29, served in the Delaware Army National Guard while attending college at the University of Delaware. He earned his commission through Army ROTC and attended flight school from July 2011 to August 2012.

He was initially assigned to the Delaware Army National Guard's Company F, 1st Battalion 126th Aviation as a medical evacuation helicopter pilot flying the UH-60.

In 2014, Robbins transferred to the New York Army National Guard and joined B Company of the 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation, an assault helicopter company.

Since joining the 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation, Robbins has responded to Hurricane Maria in 2017 and served as a battle captain when the unit participated in exercises at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California. He previously served as the intelligence officer for the battalion.

The 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation has units a Republic Airport in Ronkonkoma and at the Albany International Airport in Latham, N.Y. The battalion also has a company that is part of the Maine National Guard.

In civilian life Robbins is a member of the Suffolk County Police Department aviation section.
