Air Guard Col. Kristopher Geis, a Newburgh resident, retires after 38 years of Service

Stewart Air National Guard Base, Newburgh, NY (08/07/2025) — NEWBURGH, NY (08/02/2025) - New York Air National Guard Col. Kristopher Geis, a Newburgh resident, retired after 38 years if service, during an August 2 ceremony held at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh.

Geis most recently held the title of Deputy Commander, 105th Airlift Wing making him responsible for the combat readiness of all assigned units by providing the necessary equipment, supplies and facilities.

Geis enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1987 and earned his commission in 2002 from the Academy of Military Science at McGee Tyson Air National Guard Base, in Knoxville, TN.

In 2004, Geis became the 105th Airlift Wing's Mission Support Flight Commander, leading his team to be recognized as the Mission Support Flight of the Year in 2005 and 2007.

Geis served as Commander of the 105th Force Support Squadron and 105th Maintenance Squadron, where he was instrumental in the 105th Airlift Wing's conversion from the C-5A to the C-17 Aircraft, along with being awarded the highly distinguished Maintenance Effectiveness Award by the United States Air Force.

Geis spent his commissioned career with the 105th Airlift wing holding many titles including commander of the Force Protection Squadron, Commander of the maintenance Squadron, Chief of Staff, Deputy Commander of the maintenance group, commander of the maintenance group and Director of Staff, New York Air National Guard, Joint Force Headquarters, Latham.

He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

Geis earned his Bachelor of Science, in Finance from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 2001 and a Masters of Military Operation Art and Science at Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama in 2014.

Some of his awards include the Legion of Merit Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and Army Achievement Medal Air Force Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster.
