Albany resident Ian Turner is promoted to Staff Sgt. in the New York Army National Guard

Latham, NY (05/26/2018) — Ian Turner, an Albany resident and Iraq War veteran, was promoted to staff sergeant in the New York Army National Guard during a ceremony at New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs Headquarters here on May 25.

Turner, a former Marine who deployed to Iraq in 2004 and 2005, serves in the intelligence director of the New York National Guard's Joint Forces Headquarters.

Turner served in the Marine Corps from 2002 to 2006 as a member of the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion.

He joined the New York Army National Guard's 1st Battalion 69th Infantry in 2012 and served as an M240 machine gunner and then an infantry squad leader in the battalion's D Company.

Turner became a full-time Army National Guard Soldier in 2015 and became an intelligence analyst.

Turner holds a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Albany in business administration.

His awards include the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Iraq Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and the Army NCO Professional Development Ribbon.

He was accompanied during his promotion by his daughter Scarlet Rose and his girlfriend Kathryn Kole.
