Buffalo Based New York Army National Guard Soldiers Headed for Annual Training at Fort Dix, July 13-27

Buffalo, NY (07/12/2019) — New York Army National Guard Soldiers from the 105th Military Police Company in Buffalo will conduct their annual training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, from July 13th to the 27th.

Ninety-four Soldiers from the company will train on the M1117 Armored Security Vehicle. The Soldiers will focus on using the remote control weapons firing station on the vehicles.

Known as CROWS for Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station, the system is a stabilized mount that contains a sensor suite and fire control software, allowing on-the-move target acquisition and first-burst target engagement.

Soldiers will also be conducting field training exercises which include a long-distance march with all their equipment.

Motorists may see increased military traffic on highways and other roads as Army National Guard units move to and from Fort Dix.

The 105th Military Police Co was the first New York National Guard unit to deploy to Iraq. The company participated in the invasion of Iraq in the spring of 2003. The company spent 12 months in combat before returning home to Buffalo.

In 2009, the company was alerted to mobilize and return to Iraq as the United States was winding down operations related to Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The 105th is a unit with a long and distinguished history. Soldiers in the 105th, then an Infantry Company, served in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, the Mexican Border dispute of 1916, World War I, World War II, Bosnia, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn.

The unit has earned the Presidential Unit Citation and the Meritorious Unit Citation for their service in these conflicts.
