Duanesburg resident Christopher Smalls promoted to the rank of Sgt. 1st Class in the New York Army National Guard

Latham, NY (11/21/2023) — Duanesburg resident Christopher Smalls has been promoted to the rank of Sgt. 1st Class in the New York Army National Guard.

Smalls who is assigned to the New York National Guard's Joint Force Headquarters, was promoted during a ceremony on November 21 at New York National Guard Headquarters in Latham.

During the ceremony Smalls thanked his family for their support and his former leaders and colleagues for their mentorship.

Smalls wife Julie and son Christopher Jr. pinned on his new rank.

Smalls enlisted in the New York Army National Guard in January of 2007. Smalls is a fulltime Guardsman working as a human resource specialist.

Smalls deployed with the 42nd Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade to Kuwait in 2013.

Smalls has previously served at the battalion, brigade, and division level as a human resource specialist. He also served as the training sergeant for the 42nd Infantry Division Band.

Smalls holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Liberty University.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

Smalls and his wife Julie have three children, Christopher Jr., Kayla, and Alexa.
