Farmingdale-based Army National Guard Soldiers heading to Annual Training at Joint Base Maguire-Dix-Lakehurst

Farmingdale, NY (08/01/2019) — Seventy-five New York Army National Guard Soldiers from Delta Company of the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry, located in Farmingdale, will be conducting their annual training at Joint Base Maguire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, from August 3rd to the 17th.

The Soldiers will train with M1151 armored humvees. The Soldiers will focus on using the remote control weapons firing station on the vehicles.

Known as CROWS, for Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station, the system is a stabilized mount that contains a sensor suite and fire control software, allowing on-the-move target acquisition and first-burst target engagement with a vehicle mounted machine gun.

Soldiers of the heavy weapons platoon will be conducting intensive training on the unit's heavy machine guns. They will be firing at moving and stationary targets from vehicles and ground mounts.

The Farmingdale unit is part of New York Army National Guard's historic 69th Infantry Regiment, which has elements in New York City and the Hudson Valley as well. The 69th is a historically Irish-American unit which distinguished itself in the Civil War, World War I and World War II.

The units National Guard Soldiers fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, and have also responded to the attacks of Sept. 11, and Superstorm Sandy.

Motorists may see increased military traffic on highways and other roads as Army National Guard units move to and from training.
