Former Hudson Falls resident David Molik retires from New York Guard, state's volunteer response force, after 36 years.

Latham, NY (06/25/2021) — Fromer Hudson Falls resident David Molik, an administrative law judge for the New York State Comptroller, has retired from the New York Guard, the state's volunteer uniformed emergency response force, after 36 years of service.

The New York Guard is a state military force which augments the New York Army and Air National Guard during state emergencies.

Molik has served in the New York Guard since 1984 and rose to the rank of Colonel, serving as the deputy commander of the organization prior to his retirement in April 2021.

He has since moved to North Carolina.

He has been called to state active duty during a number of state emergencies to include a blizzard and flood in 1996, the northern New York ice storm in 1998, the Flight 800 crash on Long island in 1999, the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001, Hurricanes Irene and Lee, Superstorm Sandy, and most recently the New York National Guard response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Molik has served in a number of positions to include operations officer, unit commander at all levels, deputy chief of staff for the New York Guard, Chief of Staff for the New York Guard and deputy commander from 2018 to April of this year.

He holds a number of New York State awards to include the Conspicuous Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Commendation Medal, the Defense of Liberty Medal, the Aid to Civil Authorities Medal, and the Humane Service to New York State Medal.

Molik Graduated from the State University of New York, Buffalo School of Law in 1979 and is licensed to practice before both New York State and Federal Courts.

He has been a corporate and private attorney and has practiced as a New York State lawyer and administrative law judge since 1989.

He and his wife Patricia have three sons and a daughter. He is a member of the New York State Magistrates Association and a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Friends of the New York State Military Museum in Saratoga Springs.

His brother Steve Molik, a Buffalo resident who is also a lawyer, also retired from the New York Guard this year after many years of service.
