Greenwich resident Jeff Csoka promoted to colonel in the New York Army National Guard

Camp Smith Training Site, New York (05/17/2022) — Jeff Csoka, a Greenwich Connecticut resident, was promoted to Colonel in the New York Army National Guard during a May 15 ceremony at Camp Smith Training site near Peekskill, New York.

Csoka, a graduate of the United States Military Academy who has served in Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait, is the commander of the 106th Regional Training Institute. The unit coordinates and conducts training for National Guard Soldiers.

Csoka graduated from West Point in 1997, served in the Active Army from 1997 until 2006 in the 1st Infantry Division, the 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Division, Officer Candidate School, and the Ranger Training Brigade at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. His active-duty assignments include rifle platoon leader, company executive officer, officer instructor and company commander.

He deployed to Bosnia in 1999 and to Iraq in 2003-2004 while serving on Active Duty.

Since joining the New York Army National Guard in 2009, Csoka has served in various staff and leadership positions in the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment, the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, the 53rd Digital Liaison Detachment and the 42nd Infantry Division. He served as the commander of the 2nd Battalion 108th Infantry Regiment from 2017 to 2019.

He deployed to Afghanistan as part of a Stability and Transition Team as a senior advisory and security force assistance leader working with the Afghan Army in 2012.

He served in Kuwait in as the operations officer for the 42nd Infantry Division in 2020 when the division was commanding Task Force Spartan Shield, the Army force assigned in the Middle East.

Csoka has commanded the 106th RTI since 2019.

His military award includes the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Army Overseas Ribbon, and the NATO Medal. He also holds the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Expert Infantryman's Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Basic Parachutist's Badge, and the coveted Ranger Tab.

Csoka works as the Director of Construction & Facilities Sourcing for Columbia University in the City of New York. He and his wife Sarah, live in Greenwich, CT with their children - sons, Alexander (6), Julian (4), and daughter, Ilona (17).
