Hancock Field Air Guard unit gets new commander
Hancock Field Air National Guard Base, Syracuse, New York (05/02/2022) — New York Air National Guard Col. Kevin B. St. John took command of the 152nd Air Operations Group during an Assumption of Command Ceremony held on April 30 at Hancock Field, Syracuse, New York.
An assumption of command ceremony is a traditional military ceremony. Responsibility is transferred from one commanding officer to another, symbolized through the passing of a guidon.
The 152nd Air Operations Group is a part of the 174th Attack Wing.
The group's Airmen are trained in planning and supporting air campaigns. The Airmen of the 152nd Air Operations Group support the 603rd Air Operations Center at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
St. John, a Virginia resident, earned his commission from the Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama in 1994.
He previously served as the Commander of the 152nd Combat Operations Squadron, with operational duty positions ranging from Chief, of Strategy and Future Operations Division to Air Tasking Order Coordinator.
He holds a Master of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Florida State University and is also a graduate of Air War College.
His awards include Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal
