Hopewell Junction resident Jorge Medina is promoted to major in the New York Army National Guard

Latham, NY (08/14/2026) — Hopewell Junction resident Jorge Medina was promoted to major in the New York Army National Guard during a ceremony held at New York National Guard headquarters in Latham on August 13.

Medina's promotion from captain to major was presided over by Major General Ray Shields, the Adjutant General of New York.

Shields praised Medina as an extremely professional leader.

Medina has commanded the 222nd Military Police Company and served as an aide to the commander for the 53rd Troop Command.

He is a veteran of the Iraq War and deployed to Poland and the Baltics after the Russian invasion of Ukraine as part of Operation Assure, Deter, and Reinforce.

In his remarks, Medina thanked his wife Negeen and his family for their support during his military career. He also thanked the leaders he had learned from and the Soldier he served with over the years.

Medina, who is currently assigned to Joint Force Headquarters in Latham as Deputy Inspector General, began his military career in 2005 when he enlisted in the Army Reserve as a wheeled vehicle mechanic.

In 2008 he deployed to Fallujah, Iraq as a member of the 812th Military Police Company.

In 2011, Medina enrolled in Marist College and entered the Army Reserve Officers Training program at Fordham University. In 2014 he was commissioned as a military police officer and joined the New York Army National Guard's 442nd Military Police Company in New York City.

He deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba with the company in 2016 and was then assigned as the executive officer of the 42nd Infantry Division's Headquarters and Support Company.

Medina served as an instructor in the 106th Regional Training Institute before taking command of the 222nd Military Police Company in 2020.

He led the company through rotations at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California and a deployment to the District of Columbia following the events of January 6, 2021.

He led the company during a deployment to Poland and the Baltic countries as well.

Medina is a graduate of a number of military schools, including the Inspector General School.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation and Army Achievement Medal, the Superior Unit Award, the Iraq Campaign Medal, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

He and his wife Negeen have two children, Jason, age 8, and Callie, age 6.
