Michael C. Costello, a Guilderland resident, promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the New York Army National Guard

Latham, NY (05/14/2025) — Michael C. Costello, a Guilderland resident, was promoted to lieutenant colonel in the New York Army National Guard during a May 14, 2024, promotion ceremony at the New York National Guard headquarters in Latham, N.Y.

Army National Guard Col. Patrick Clare, the New York Army National Guard Chief of Staff presided over the ceremony and praised Costello during his remarks.

"I've known Mike for years, and I am grateful for all his contributions towards this organization. He deserves this promotion; his potential is endless."

In his remarks, Costello, a Logistics officer, thanked the people who had helped him during his military career.

"This moment is not mine alone; it belongs to the many people who have stood beside me, challenged me, and lifted me throughout this journey," Costello said.

"It is a testament to the unwavering support, guidance, and belief that you have invested in me throughout my career. To my family, you are my rock and inspiration," he added.

Costello is assigned to the 369th Sustainment Brigade as the human resource officer.

Costello received his New York Army National Guard commission as an ordnance officer through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Siena College in 2010.

He has served in several sustainment positions which include platoon leader, ammunition officer, maintenance control officer, and commander of Bravo Company for the 427th Brigade Support Battalion, logistics maintenance officer of the 42nd Infantry Division, sustainment officer of the 27th Infantry Brigade Company Team, and most recently as a team chief for the Joint Forces Headquarters, New York.

In 2012, Costello deployed to Shindand, Afghanistan, with the 27th Brigade. He was responsible for the retrograde and accountability of all theater-provided equipment as part of the drawdown in western Afghanistan.

In 2020, he deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Spartan Shield and served as the logistics maintenance officer for the 42nd Infantry Division, overseeing the ground maintenance operations for multiple brigades.

Costello graduated from Siena College in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in history and from the Army's Logistics Career Course.

In 2020, he attended the United States Army Command and General Staff College, graduating from the Advanced Operations Course.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and NATO medal.

Costello works as a federal technician and a supervisory logistics management specialist in the directorate of logistics for the New York National Guard.

He resides in Guilderland, NY, with his wife Kathryn, and their children Graham (7), Siena (5), Lucas (2), and Archie (newborn).
