Monroe National Guard officer promoted and assigned as deputy commander to historic NYC unit

David Myones to serve as deputy commander with 369th Sustainment Brigade, the 'Harlem Hellfighters'

Latham, NY (09/11/2023) — David Myones, a Monroe, N.Y. resident and former director of the New York Army National Guard's State Partnership Program, received a promotion to the rank of lieutenant colonel during a ceremony at the National Guard headquarters in Latham, N.Y., September 10, 2023.

Myones led the state partnership program since 2021, managing and coordinating the New York National Guard relationships with the militaries and governments of Brazil, Denmark, South Africa and Israel.

New York has formal partnerships with the South African Defense Force and Brazilian military, with ongoing special relationships with Denmark and Israel.

His energy, enthusiasm and drive impacting the partnership program in countless ways, said Brig. Gen. Isabel Smith, the New York National Guard Director of the Joint Staff and presiding officer for the ceremony.

"He's done a tremendous job with our partnership program," Smith said, "elevating the program to incredible heights. It's made me proud."

Myones, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, moves to a new position as the deputy commander for the 369th Sustainment Brigade in Harlem, N.Y.

An Army Signals officer, Myones has held increasing positions of leadership and staff responsibilities since his commissioning in 2008.

Smith praised Myones for his achievements.

"He's about getting things done," Smith said. "He's about people and he's about solving problems."

His previous positions include executive officer of the 101st Expeditionary Signal Battalion, Executive Officer of the 369th Special Troops Battalion, Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistics with the 53rd Troop Command Headquarters, two company commands in the 427th Brigade Support Battalion and platoon leader and staff roles in the 101st Expeditionary Signal Battalion.

"Being at these different levels, in different roles and in different organizations, I believe, has helped me be more well rounded as an officer and will prepare me as I embark in this new role," Myones said.

"I want to take a moment to thank the leadership in this organization for trusting in me, not only for promotion, but in placing me in a key role within the 369th Sustainment Brigade," he said.

Even as a lieutenant, Smith said she remembered their service together nearly 15 years ago.

"I met Dave and a number of other lieutenants in 2009 in the Troop Command and all now have gone on to become lieutenant colonels or colonels, so we definitely picked a good group," Smith said.

Myones holds a Bachelor of Science in International Relations from Boston University and a Master of Science in Personal Financial Planning from the College for Financial Planning. He is a graduate from the Signal Officers Basic Course, Logistics Captains Career Course, Command and General Staff College and the Air Assault School.

He resides in Monroe, N.Y., with his wife Megan and two children, Luke and Hannah.
