New Paltz resident Ryan Dannemann, commander of Air Guard's 105th Airlift Wing promoted to one-star general

Stewart Air National Guard Base, Newburgh, New York (11/21/2025) — Ryan Dannemann, a New Paltz resident who commands the New York Air National Guard's 105th Airlift Wing commander, was promoted to the rank of brigadier general in a ceremony held at Stewart Air National Guard Base Nov. 2, 2025.

Dannemann, who took command of the 105th Airlift Wing in January of 2024, is the first 105th commander who has served his whole career with the wing.

He received his commission from the Academy of Military Science at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base in Tennessee in 2002 following graduation from Miami University in 2001 and has served at the 105th since in a variety of roles.

Some of the responsibilities he has held include pilot and aircraft commander in both the C-5 Galaxy and C-17 Globemaster III aircraft, instructor pilot, assistant flight commander, 105th Operations Group commander and more.

Danneman took on his current role as commander of the 105th Airlift Wing in January 2024.

During his promotion ceremony, Brig. Gen. Gary Charlton, the assistant adjutant general for the New York Air National Guard and presiding officer for the ceremony, praised Dannemann's contributions to the wing and its success.

Dannemann's father, retired Col. Kevin F. Dannemann, the commander of the 105th Maintenance Group, administered the oath of office to his son.

As part of the ceremony, Dannemann was presented with a one-star general officers' flag which indicates his presence at events.

"This star will remind me every day that I must bring my very best to work each day for you and keep learning," he told the wing's Airmen.

"I have had an extraordinary career thus far, surrounded by you, our nation's best who are doing the tough and difficult work around the world that only our Air Force can do. My ride has been incredible, and if I had the choice to begin again and restart this journey, I'd do it," he said.

"And many years from now, if I have done my job properly, our youngest 105th Airmen will feel the same way," Danneman added.

Danneman holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He is a graduate of a number of military schools including the Air War College and the National Security Management Course at Syracuse University.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Aerial Achievement Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal.
