New York Army National Guard welcomes three new officers to its ranks

ROTC commissioning for recent college graduates adds to leadership in NY National Guard

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (05/21/2018) — The New York Army National Guard welcomed three of its newest officers during the ROTC commissioning ceremony at Hofstra University May 18th, 2018.

The three lieutenants were among seven cadets of the Hofstra University Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program, which includes cadets at various Long Island colleges and universities. The group were administered their officer's oath and new gold bars as commissioned officers in the United States Army in the company of family and friends.

The three include:

2nd Lieutenant Marouane Guidi from the Bronx, N.Y., who graduated with a Bachelor Science in Aviation Administration from SUNY Farmingdale, and commissioned as a Military Intelligence Officer. Guidi will be assigned to the 53rd Troop Command located in Cortland Manor.

2nd Lieutenant Brendan Hoffman from Bethpage, N.Y., graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from Hofstra University, and commissioned as a Field Artillery Officer. Hoffman will be assigned to the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment as a Fire Support Officer.

2nd Lieutenant Kelli McLaughlin from Saint James, N.Y., graduated from Stony Brook University and was commissioned as an Aviation Officer. She will be assigned to Company A, 3rd Battalion, 142nd Aviation Regiment in Ronkonkoma. McLaughlin is not pictured as she was in another ceremony the day prior, May 17, at Stony Brook University.

The newly commissioned officers were addressed by Stuart Rabinowitz, President of Hofstra University, and were administered their oath of office by keynote speaker retired Major General Patrick Higgins, a 1980 Hofstra ROTC graduate.
