New York Guard Col. Marchi Receives Lifetime Achievement Award from the State University of New York at Albany

Hopewell Junction resident recognized for Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness

Latham, NY (05/20/2022) — New York Guard Col. Glenn Marchi, a Hopewell Junction, New York resident, recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award from his alma mater, the State University of New York at Albany, College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity in Albany, New York on April 27, 2022. The award recognized his military, federal and state, and civilian achievements.

Marchi, the current commander of the New York Guard's 56th Area Command, received his Ph.D. in Information Science from the University in 1999 and has held numerous senior level positions in information technology. He is currently the Commissioner of Central and Information Services for Dutchess County Government in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Marchi's role as Commissioner of Central and Information Services directly contributed to Dutchess County being continuously recognized as a leader on the national level for technological innovation. The county earned the number one ranking in the nation, among mid-size county governments, in the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties annual Digital Counties Survey.

"Dutchess County Government continues to set the standard for quality technology and innovation," Marchi said upon receiving the award. He credited the county's leadership and his colleagues for providing an environment that is committed to enhancing information services.

Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro congratulated Marchi and his entire team for being on the "forefront of Dutchess County's efforts to provide technology that is efficient, secure and accessible for our departments and residents."

Marchi's military service began in 1975 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army, 503rd Military Police Company, 3rd Armored Division, and was stationed in Germany. In 1978, he enlisted in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. In 1980, Marchi was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant from the Pennsylvania National Guard Officer Candidate School; and in 1983, he transferred to the New York Army National Guard.

Marchi has extensive experience providing military support to civil authorities during domestic operations. His New York Army National Guard highlights include being a first responder to the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001, commanding the 642nd Aviation Support Battalion in Iraq providing humanitarian aid to Iraqi schools for Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004 to 2005, conducting joint exercises in domestic operations for a dual-status command at the 2009 G-20 Global Economic Summit, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and providing mobilization process training with the South African National Defense Force, Pretoria, South Africa in 2009. Marchi retired from the New York Army National Guard in 2010 with 35 years of military service.

Marchi joined the New York Guard in 2011 as the Assistant Chief of Staff, Operations and Training Officer. He was deployed as a liaison officer during Hurricane Irene in 2011 and Superstorm Sandy in 2012. In 2015, Marchi served as the commander of the 12th Regimental Training Institute before assuming his current command in 2018.
