New York National Guard Soldier competes at the 2023 Jacksonville Spartan Race
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (03/03/2023) — New York Army National Guard 1st Lt. Nick Trentanelli, a Corning, New York resident, competed in the recent Jacksonville Spartan Race held Feb. 25-26, 2023 at the WW Ranch Motocross Park in Jacksonville, Florida.
Trentanelli was one of more than two dozen National Guard Soldiers from 16 states who competed in the competition as part of National Guard's All Guard Endurance Team. He is assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 152nd Brigade Engineer Battalion, part of the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
Trentanelli ran the Spartan Super which is 6.2 miles with obstacles in 1:12:24 and placed 16th in his age group and 124th overall. He also ran 3.1 miles in 41:32 during the Spartan Sprint race.
Founded in 2007, the Spartan Race is a series of obstacle races of varying distance and difficulty ranging from 3 miles to marathon distances. They are hosted in the United States and internationally.
The races feature obstacles like walls, ropes, and mud pits, as well as natural terrain like hills and streams. The events are open to all fitness levels, from beginners to elite athletes.
To compete in the Spartan Race, service members had to have qualified for the All-Guard Endurance Team at the DEKA Fit competition in Austin, Texas, January 2022.
"I am extremely proud and pleased with service members on this team," said Sgt. 1st Class Douglas Stephens, military competitive events coordinator. "They are world class athletes, and I couldn't ask for better Soldiers and Airmen to represent the National Guard."
The All-Guard Endurance Team also had a booth at the Spartan Race where service members spoke with other runners and handed out swag.
