Newtown resident Jose Santos promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 2 in the New York Army National Guard
Camp Smith Training Site, New York (03/23/2023) — Jose Santos, a Newtown resident, was promoted to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2 in the New York Army National Guard during a March 16, 2023, ceremony at Camp Smith Training Site in Cortlandt Manor, New York.
Santos, who currently serves as the deputy personnel officer for the New York Army Guard's 53rd Troop Command, is a veteran of the Iraq War, and who has also deployed to Africa and Kuwait.
Santos joined the New York Army National Guard in 2003. He became a noncommissioned officer and reached the rank of sergeant first class before becoming a warrant officer in 2021.
Warrant officers are highly trained technical experts in their military career fields, who fall between the noncommissioned officer and the commissioned officer ranks.
Santos holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a master's in economics from Ashford University. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in internal finance from Liberty University.
His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Valorous Unit Award, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Air Assault Badge, and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge.
He and his wife Brenda have two children, Lukas, and Liana.
