NY Air Guard Col. Charles Hutson, a Manlius resident, retires after 30 years of military service

Hancock Field Air National Guard Base (05/09/2024) — New York Air National Guard Col. Charles Hutson, a Manlius resident, retired after 30 years of military serving during a May 4 ceremony at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base.

Hutson served as the Deputy Commander of the 174th Attack Wing, which is based at Hancock Field.

Hutson is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, where he served as Chief of Fiscal Policy for Force Integration for U.S. forces in Kabul, Afghanistan.

He received the Legion of Merit during the ceremony, which was presided over by Retired Air National Guard Col. Charles Dorsey, a former 174th vice commander.

Hutson's military career began in 1994, when he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army through the Reserve Officers Training Corps program at Clarkson University.

He initially served in the active Army, serving as the resource management officer for the 501st Intelligence Brigade based in Seoul, South Korea. He transferred to the New York Army National Guard and served as the production control officer for B Company of the 427th Support Battalion in Rochester.

After transferring to the Air National Guard, Hutson served in a number of positions, to include director of federal resources at New York National Guard Joint Force Headquarters, and Deputy United States Property and Fiscal Officer for the New York National Guard.

Hutson holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineer and Management and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University. He is Certified Defense Financial Manager as well.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Korea Defense Medal.
