NY Army National Guard First Sergeant Theodore Gentile, a West Point resident, recognized during ceremony at National Guard headquarters

Latham, NY (12/10/2021) — Theodore Gentile, a veteran of the War in Afghanistan, was recognized as a first sergeant in the New York Army National Guard during a ceremony held at New York National Guard Headquarters in Latham on Tuesday, Dec. 7.

In his new position, Gentile will serve as the top enlisted leader of the New York National Guard's 1156th Engineer Company, which headquartered at Camp Smith Training Site in Cortlandt Manor, and also has a detachment in Kingston.

The company is part of the 204th Engineer Battalion, which is headquartered in Binghamton.

Gentile is a full-time Army National Guard Soldier and lives on the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Gentile enlisted in the New York Army National Guard in 2004.

He served as an infantryman and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry, where he served as a fire team leader and unit supply sergeant.

He deployed to Afghanistan in 2008 as a squad leader in Charlie Troop, of the 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry. He has also served as the senior supply sergeant for the 1st Battalion, 258th Field Artillery and the 53rd Troop Command.

Gentile's military education includes the Noncommissioned Officer Education System, the Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officer Course, the Small Arms Master Gunner Course and the Unit Armorer Course.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Afghan Campaign Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge.

He and his wife Tiffany have two children, Teddy and Andrew.
