NY Army National Guard Lt. Olushola Ajiboye, a Queens resident, takes command of 14th Financial Management Support Detachment

Camp Smith Training Site, New York (06/08/2021) — New York Army National Guard 1st Lt. Olushola Ajiboye, a Queens' resident, took command of the Army National Guard's 14th Financial Management Support Detachment during a ceremony at Camp Smith training site near Peekskill on June 5.

The 14th Finance Management Support Detachment ensures that Soldiers pay is properly processed and handles the dispersal of funds to local contractors and agencies during deployments.

Ajiboye began her military career in 2012 when she enlisted in the New York Army National Guard.

She attended Basic Combat Training and Advance Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where she graduated as the honor grad at AIT earning recognition from the Commandant of the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence at Fort Leonard Wood.

Upon completion of her training, she was awarded the Military Occupation Specialty 79D, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Specialists.

In 2014 she attained the status of a non-commissioned officer and made the decision to change her military career path from enlisted to the officer route. She completed the Officer Candidate School in 2016 and commission as a finance officer.

"I'm excited to take command," said Ajiboye. "My goal is to make sure my soldiers develop, grow and receive the training they need to progress in their careers."

Her assignments have included chemical specialist with the 222nd Chemical Company at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, and executive officer of the 4th Finance Management Support Detachment.

She has served as the personnel office for the 27th Finance Management Support Unit and operations officer for the 369th Sustainment Battalion and for Joint Task Force Javits, the New York National Guard providing support for the state vaccination facility at Jacob Javits Convention Center.

"We were all glad when 1st Lt. Ajiboye, accepted the position," said Maj. Sara Mitchell, commander of the 27th Finance Management Support Unit. "She will be a great asset for the mission".

The 14th Financial Management Support Detachment is preparing for an upcoming deployment next year.

"14th Finance has been deployed many times and our Soldiers are subject matter experts in their field," said Ajiboye. "I have complete confidence that we will have a smooth deployment and be able to complete our mission overseas".

She holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Accounting and a Master's degree in Business Administration.

Her awards include the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Armed Forces Reserve Medal.

She enjoys spending time with family and traveling with her son David in her spare time.
