NY Army National Guard Specialist Ian Stewart, a Hornell resident, recognized during Annual Training

FORT DRUM, New York (07/23/2021) — New York Army National Guard Spc. Ian Stewart, a Hornell resident and combat engineer assigned to Bravo Company, 152nd Brigade Engineer Battalion, 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, received a challenge coin from Col. Sean Flynn, the 27th IBCT commander here, July 14.

Stewart received the coin in recognition of his hard work, dedication and attitude he displayed during the Covid-19 pandemic. Awarding commander coins in recognition of hard work and commitment is a military tradition.

While most of Alpha Company's drills have been virtual in recent months, Stewart repeatedly volunteered to come to his unit armory and assist in any way he could, explained Capt. Christopher Schrader, Bravo Company commander.

"When Stewart comes to work for the guard, his focus is always on the mission," said Schrader "He's got a different attitude. A good one."
