Queensbury resident Matthew Starr promoted to Warrant Officer 2 in New York Army National Guard

Latham, NY (04/06/2017) — Matthew Starr, a Queensbury resident and a veteran of the War in Afghanistan has been promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 2 in the New York Army National Guard.

Warrant Officers are specialists in technical, intelligence, and personnel fields who are issued "warrants" for their ranks instead of the "commissions" held by officers in the rank of lieutenant on up. They fall between the noncommissioned and officer ranks in the Army's rank structure.

Starr serves as supervisory resource specialist in the New York National Guard federal human resources office.

Starr, age 39, has served in the Active Army and the Army National Guard. After serving in the 82nd Airborne Division and the 18th Airborne Corps he joined the New York Army National Guard in 2003.

While deployed in Afghanistan he served in the Joint Border Coordination Center in Spin Boldak.

Starr's assignments in the New York Army National Guard have included enlisted aid to the Adjutant General and career counselor for Soldiers assigned to the New York National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Latham.

Starr holds a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He also attended Florida State University.

His awards include the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the NATO Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon, the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.

He and his wife Jenny, have four children, Ethan (age 12), Maya (age 9), Jack (age 6), and Gywneth(age 3).
