Schenectady resident Jeannine Mannarino honored on retirement as New York National Guard civilian employee

Latham, NY (10/28/2021) — Jeannine Mannarino, a Schenectady resident, was honored by the New York National Guard on Wednesday, October 27, as she marked her retirement as a federal civilian employee of the National Guard.

Mannarino, who also served in the New York Army National Guard from 1980 until 2004, worked in the United States Property and Finance Office, tracking federal expenditures in support of the New York National Guard.

Between her military and federal civilian service, Mannarino has supported the National Guard for 41 years.

During her military career she served as a public affairs non-commissioned officer for both the 42nd Infantry Division and the New York Army National Guard headquarters, an Army National Guard recruiter, and National Guard education office officer manager, and in the 27th Rear Area Operations Center.

Her military awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal and the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Medal.

Her most recent assignment as a civilian employee was to monitor the use of government purchase cards in support of ordinary operations as well as emergency missions. During the New York National Guard's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, when Guard personnel were supporting testing and vaccination sites across the states, this became particularly important.

"Kindess and empathy are the defining trademarks of her career. Anyone who knows Ms. Mannarino, knows she will go the extra mile to help a Soldier, a team member, and anyone else in need," said Col. Peter Keegen, the deputy director of the United States Property and Fiscal Office.

Mannarino was presented a New York State Conspicuous Service Cross and New York State Medal for Merit to mark her years of service.

In her remarks, Mannarino said she never regretted joining the New York National Guard.

"Truthfully I will miss it and miss everybody here," she said.
