Schenectady resident Mayra Winnine recognized for accomplishments by Air National Guard

Senior Master Sgt. Mayra Winnie named Force Support Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year for 2023

Latham, NY (04/30/2024) — New York Air National Guard Senior Master Sgt. Mayra Winnie, a Schenectady resident, has been selected as the Force Support Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year for the entire Air National Guard.

This award recognizes the Airman who best adheres to the Air Force's core principles of developing Airmen to thoroughly understand the Air Force mission, organization, and doctrine. It consists of three principal areas: training, education and experience.

She is currently assigned as the Personnel and Development Superintendent for the New York Air National Guard Headquarters located in Latham, NY.

During 2023, Winnie displayed extraordinary job knowledge completing 871 staffing actions over 22 separate programs for the Air National Guard's largest state force supporting 5 Wings, the Eastern Air Defense Sector and 2 geographically separated units consisting of 5,801 Airmen.

She also epitomizes professional development and concern for fellow airmen leading four Base-wide professional organizational councils.

When not on duty, Winnie served as a volunteer at the City Mission of Schenectady and for Schenectady County veterans. She is also a graduate of Leadership Capital Region, a Capital Region Chamber program that brings leaders together. Her class worked to help raise $67,000 for the Northeastern Regional Food Bank.

Winne joined the New York Air National Guard in 2005 as an intelligence specialist. She has served in a variety of personnel administration positions in the 109th Airlift Wing, before taking her current position in New York Air National Guard Headquarters.

She has been selected as 109th Airlift Wing Force Support Squadron Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year twice and has been named the 109th Airlift Wing Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year.

She has deployed to Al Udeid, Air Base in Qatar in support of operations in the Iraq and the Middle East.

She has been awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the New York Humane Service to New York State Medal.
