Seaford resident Robert Savio promoted to Chief Master Sgt. in the New York Air National Guard

Westhampton Beach, New York (06/17/2022) — Robert Savio, a Seaford resident, has been promoted to Chief Master Sgt. in the New York Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing.

Savio has been a member of the 106th Rescue Wing, based at Francis S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base in Westhampton Beach for 33 years. He was promoted during a June 4, 2022, ceremony.

He currently serves as component repair branch chief in the avionics maintenance section of the 106th Maintenance Group.

As a branch chief, Savio played a key role in maintenance projects. He prepared, deployed and redeployed approximately 50 unit members in 2020 during COVID operations and restrictions. Furthermore, he facilitated needed help for Maintenance members concerning the untimely loss of two unit members.

Savio is an outstanding leader, according to Lt Col Jesse Fritz, 106th Maintenance Group Commander.

"The ability to critically look at an issue and see that issue from all sides, without personal bias, is a hard thing to do for anyone. Savio has spent the past two years doing just that and coming to conclusions that are for the betterment of the organization and the Airmen that make it up," Fritz said.

Air National Guard promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability and attract and retain the highest caliber Citizen Soldiers for a career in the New York Air National Guard.

The 106th Rescue Wing, based in F.S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base in Westhampton Beach, New York, operates and maintains the HC-130J Combat King II search and rescue aircraft, and the HH-60G Pave Hawk rescue helicopter. The 106th Rescue Wing is home to a special warfare squadron with pararescuemen and combat rescue officers, specializing in rescue and recovery, and deploys for domestic and overseas operations. Currently, the wing also supports statewide COVID-19 missions.
