Senior Master Sgt. Gary Fiorillo, Broadalbin resident, named 1st Sgt. of the year for 109th Airlift Wing

Stratton ANGB, NY (02/21/2020) — Senior Master Sgt. Gary Fiorillo was named the Oustanding 1st Sergeant of the Year for the 109th Airlift Wing, New York Air National Guard.

As a 1st Sgt., Fiorillo serves as the primary liaison wth the commander on all matters concerning the enlisted corps and provides a dedicated focal point for all readiness, health and morale issues within his organization.

Fiorillo deplyed for Operations INHERENT RESOLVE, SPARTAN SHIELD, and FREEDOM SENTINAL, where he served as a trusted 1st Sgt. to more than 900 Airmen. He also taught leadership and mentoring courses for Airmen and developed a feedback program to foster communcation and growth in his unit.

Fiorillo also procured morale, welfare and recreation equipment for Airmen to utilize while deployed to Greenland in support of the National Science Foundation.

Airman are selected for this award based on superior leadership, job performance and personal achievements.
