Simsbury Resident Brandon Gendron gets promoted to Colonel in the New York Army National Guard

Latham, NY (05/21/2024) — Brandon Gendron, a Simsbury, Connecticut resident, was promoted to Colonel in the New York Army National Guard during a May 20, 2024, promotion ceremony at New York National Guard headquarters in Latham.

Army National Guard Maj. Gen. Ray Shields, the adjutant general of New York, presided over the ceremony and praised Gendron during his remarks.

"He deserves this promotion, not based on his past performance, but rather because of his potential for future advancement and significant contributions," Shields said.

"Always remember everything we do is about our people. You must continue to focus on retaining our Soldiers and civilian employees, in the New York Army National Guard," Shields told Gendron.

In his remarks, Gendron thanked his wife and kids for helping and supporting him.

"I continue to learn from my fellow Soldiers and appreciate everyone's dedication to the New York Army National Guard, I will continue to work hard to ensure our Soldiers are trained to be successful," he added.

Gendron will continue to work full time as the Operations, Training, and Plans Officer for the New York Army National Guard, where he is responsible for the training of 11,180 Soldiers.

Gendron was commissioned in 2004 as an engineer officer.

His past assignments include battalion commander of the 204th Engineer Battalion, deputy director of plans, operations, and training, state training officer, battalion executive officer of the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment, operations officer at the 106th Regiment (Regional Training Institute), and command of Company D, 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment, and command of the Headquarters Support Company under the 204th Engineer Battalion.

Gendron graduated from the State University of Buffalo and holds a master's degree in business administration from Nichols College and a master's in strategic studies from the United States Army War College.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, German Armed Forces Efficiency Test Medal, the Field Artillery Order of Saint Barbara and the Infantry Order of Saint Maurice.

Gendron and his wife Suzanne have two children, Kyleigh and Jack.
