Springfield Gardens National Guard Soldier promoted to rank of lieutenant colonel

Latham, NY (11/29/2019) — Latham, NY (11/16/2019) - New York Army National Guard Lt. Col. Judith Williams, a veteran of the war in Iraq from Springfield Gardens, New York, was promoted during a ceremony at the Joint Force Headquarters in Latham November 16, 2019.

Williams began her career in 1986 when she enlisted into the New York National Guard's Bravo Company, 102nd Medical Battalion where she served as a Combat Medic.

In 2000, she attended Officer Candidate School and subsequently commissioned in the Army Transportation Corps and assigned as a platoon leader in the 1569th Transportation Company.

From there, she was selected to command the 10th Transportation Detachment, assigned to the 369th Corps Support Battalion where she deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Enduring Freedom I and II.

She additionally served in various other operations and activations throughout her career, including Operation Bright Star in Egypt, Atlas Accord in Mali, Africa, Homeland Response Force Validation exercises and disaster response for Superstorm Sandy.

She currently holds the position of Defense Movement Coordinator of the Joint Force Headquarters.

Her awards include the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (7th award), the National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.
