Staten Island based National Guard Soldiers leave for training in Iowa this weekend

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (02/08/2019) — Ninety-seven New York Army National Guard Sldiers from Staten Island will spend the next two weeks training at Camp Dodge, Iowa, beginning on Saturday, Feb. 9.

The members of the 145th Maintenance Company, who are based at the Manor Road Armory, specialize in the repair of military vehicles, generators and other key equipment. They will be training at the Army National Guard's Sustainment Training Center.

The Soldiers will spend two weeks repairing trucks and Humvees and bringing them back to operational standards. The Soldiers benefit from the opportunity to practice their military skills and the Army benefits as equipment is sent back out into the field.

In 2018, the 145th Maintenance Company's Soldiers deployed to the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, Louisiana for their annual training. They repaired vehicles used in the brigade-level maneuver training that takes place at that post.

The last time the Staten Island-based Soldiers trained at the Camp Dodge facility was in 2013.
