Training involving explosive simulators and smoke will take place a Camp Smith April 17-18
Area residents may here explosions and firing during the training period
CAMP SMITH TRAINING SITE, New York (04/14/2026) — Cadets from the United States Military Academy at West Point will be conducting training at the New York National Guard's Camp Smith Training Site over the weekend from Friday, April 17 to Sunday, April 19.
The cadets will be firing on the camp's ranges and using explosive simulators and smoke grenades as part of their military training exercise.
On Friday, April 17, smoke and explosive simulators are likely to be used around 10 p.m.
On Saturday, April 18, training will begin after 6 a.m.
Residents living in the vicinity of Camp Smith may hear noise from the ranges throughout the day.
Drone systems will be used as part of the training and helicopters will be flying in the area as well as part of the exercise.
The Camp Smith Training Site is the New York National Guard's premier training facility which is also used by the Army Reserve, and other state National Guard's as well as West Point.
