Central New York Air National Guard Members Promoted
Maj. Gen. Anthony P. German, the Adjutant General for the State of New York, announces the recent promotion of seven members of the New York Air National Guard's 224th Air Defense Group (ADG) in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership. The 224th ADG, composed of the 224th Air Defense Squadron and 224th Support Squadron, provides the forces to conduct the Eastern Air Defense Sector's (EADS) mission. Part of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), the Sector is responsible for the air defense of the eastern U.S. Promoted Airmen are: Gary Julian, Utica, to the rank of Technical Sergeant. Julian is an Identificatoin Technician at the 224th Air Defense Squadron. Ray Shively, Rome, to the rank of Technical Sergeant. Shively is a Tracking Technician at the 224th Air Defense Squadron. Michael Sweezey, Whitesboro, to the rank of Technical Sergeant. Sweezey is a Security Forces Craftsman in the 224th Support Squadron. Nicholas Spine, Rome, to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Patnode is a Security Forces Journeyman with the 224th Support Squadron. Thomas Schweizer, Rome, to the rank of Senior Airman. Schweizer is a Cyber Systems Journeyman with the 224th Support Squadron. Western NY National Guard Welcomes New Enlisted Leaders
The New York Army National Guard's 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry welcomed nine newly promoted non-commissioned officers (NCOs) into its leadership ranks during a ceremony held during scheduled unit training April 13, 2018 at Fort Drum, N.Y. The 2-101st Cavalry, the reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition squadron based in Niagara Falls, held an NCO induction ceremony to celebrate the new Soldiers joining the ranks of a professional noncommissioned officer corps.

Army National Guard Soldiers receive award for 2017 hurricane response
Major General Anthony P. German, the Adjutant General of New York, announces the recent award recognitions for members of the New York Army National Guard who participated in the humanitarian assistance and disaster relief support missions following the devastation caused by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria in 2017. "The support of our New York National Guard in the Caribbean following Hurricanes Irma and Maria was nothing short of exceptional, and our Soldiers are the reason for that success," German said. "Our Citizen Soldiers are used to responding here at home, so the effort to move troops and equipment to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands presented unique challenges. The presentation of the Humanitarian Service Medal is a great reflection of our Soldiers' commitment to serve others," German said. The Department of Defense approved the Humanitarian Service Medal on March 29, 2018 for Soldiers who provided meritorious participation in operations of a humanitarian nature. More than 400 Army National Guard Soldiers will be eligible to receive the award. Presentations will be made at the unit level at a future date.

Army National Guard Soldiers begin military careers
Major General Anthony P. German, the Adjutant General of New York, announces the recent service accomplishment of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their initial commitment to serve community, state and nation. The newest Citizen Soldiers to complete Army basic combat training and advanced individual training were welcomed to their units during a New York Army National Guard battle handoff ceremony. The ceremony marks their completion of the National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program, a preparatory training program that provides new recruits with training, lessons and skills to excel at their initial military training. The New York Army National Guard welcomed 89 new Soldiers to their units during November and December ceremonies around the state.

Castleton resident Jennifer Raub- Scott promoted to Master Sergeant in New York Army National Guard
Castleton resident Jennifer Raub- Scott, a veteran of Iraq was promoted to master sergeant during a ceremony held at the Scotia Glenville Armed Forces Reserve Center in Glenville, N.Y. on February 11th, 2018. Raub-Scott enlisted in the New York Army National Guard in March of 1998 as a paralegal specialist. Her first unit of assignment was Headquarters and Support Company, 204th Engineer Battalion. After a short break in service in 2004, she re-enlisted again in early 2005, and became an intelligence analyst. She served again in the 204th Engineer Battalion until 2009, when she transferred to the 501st Ordnance Battalion where she served as a Tech Intel Analyst. From 2010 to 2011, she deployed to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn. Upon redeployment, she transferred to the Intel and Sustainment Company, 42nd Infantry Division in 2012, where she served as a senior intelligence sergeant. Raub- Scott's next assignment will be at the Joint Force Headquarters, in the military intelligence section where she will serve as the chief intelligence non-commissioned officer. Raub-Scott's military education include; the senior leader course, advanced leader course, and electronic warfare crew course. Her awards and decorations include; the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon. Raub-Scott also holds 104 credits towards a Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences from Empire State University. Raub-Scott resides in Castleton with her husband Chief Warrant Officer Three Tom Scott also a member of the New York Army National Guard and their two boys, Wayne and Ben.

Camden resident takes command of 109th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron
SCOTIA, N.Y. - Maj. Sandra Stoquert, a resident of Camden, New York, took command of the 109th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing during a ceremony at Stratton Air National Guard Base on Feb. 12. As the squadron commander, Stoquert is responsible for managing the safe, reliable, and timely flightline maintenance and sortie generation of all 109th Wing-assigned LC-130H and C-130H aircraft. The Aircraft Maintenance Squadron's Airmen are responsible for supporting annual Operations Deep Freeze and Raven Dew which are conducted in the polar regions of Antarctica and Greenland. Stoquert served as the New York Air National Guard's executive officer at Joint Forces Headquarters New York prior to taking command of the Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. Her awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal. On the civilian side, Stoquert is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for the Adirondack Central School District. She leads, organizes and plans group and individual counseling for at-risk students. Stoquert resides in Camden with her husband, Master Sgt. Frederick Stoquert III. Her son, Petty Officer 1st Class Jason Carly, is stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington. She is the daughter of John and Sandra LaVine of Rome, New York.

Melanie Groff, a Schenectady resident, honored by the New York Army National Guard
New York Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Melanie Groff, a Schenectady resident, was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal during a ceremony held at the Division of Military and Naval Affairs Headquarters in Latham, N.Y. on December 21. Groff received the award in recognition for her two years of exceptional service as the aid to Maj. Gen. Anthony German, the Adjutant General for the New York National Guard. Groff joined the National Guard in 2005 as an intelligence analyst and was assigned to the 501st Ordnance Battalion. In 2009 Groff deployed as a Military Police Team Leader with the 206th Military Police Company to Basra, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon her return in 2010, she transferred to the 727th Law and Order Detachment where she served as a Military Police Team Leader. In July 2014, Groff was selected to become a full-time National Guard Soldier where she worked in the Intelligence and Security Directorate. In 2015 she started working as the aide to the Adjutant General. Her future assignment working for the National Guard will be in Glenville, N.Y., where she will serve as the Training Non-Commissioned Officer for the 42nd Infantry Division Intelligence and Sustainment Company. Her awards and decorations include; the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal , National Defense Service Medal , Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal , Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge , and the Meritorious Unit Commendation.
