Brooklyn leader to command historic New York National Guard company
NEW YORK -- New York Army National Guard Capt. Dennis Tierney, a Brooklyn resident and Afghan War veteran, took command of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion 69th Infantry-known as the "Fighting 69th"-on St. Patrick's Day, March 17.

Army National Guard soldiers begin military careers
Major General Anthony P. German, the Adjutant General of New York, announces the recent service accomplishment of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their initial commitment to serve community, state and nation. The newest Citizen Soldiers to complete Army basic combat training and advanced individual training were welcomed to their units during a New York Army National Guard battle handoff ceremony. The ceremony marks their completion of the National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program, a preparatory training program that provides new recruits with training, lessons and skills to excel at their initial military training.

Johnsonville firefighter Jason Malm selected as New York Air National Guard Airman of the Year
Airman 1st Class Jason Malm, a resident of Johnsonville, was selected as the New York Air National Guard Outstanding Airman of the Year for 2016, based on his superior leadership, job performance, community involvement and personal achievements. Malm joined the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing in Scotia New York in 2014 with the Medical Group as a dental technician. On the civilian side, he is a dental hygienist with Fuschino Family Dentistry in Mechanicville as well as a firefighter with the Johnsonville Fire Department. Malm will go on to compete for the 2016 Air National Guard Outstanding Airman of the Year. Malm resides in Johnsonville with his wife, Maria. He is the son of John Malm and Dale Berghello, both of Valley Falls.

Glenville resident Lynette Tangredi selected as New York Air National Guard First Sergeant of the Year
Master Sgt. Lynette Tangredi, a resident of Glenville, has been selected as the New York Air National Guard Outstanding First Sergeant of the Year for 2016, based on her superior leadership, job performance, community involvement and personal achievements. Tangredi, a 20-year Air Force veteran, joined the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing in Scotia, New York, in 2004. She began her duties as the first sergeant of the 109th Security Forces Squadron in 2015. Tangredi will go on to compete for the 2016 Air National Guard Outstanding First Sergeant of the Year. Tangredi resides in Glenville with her husband, Charles, and daughters, Gabriella and Audreanna.
