The 224th Air Defense Group (ADG) at the Eastern Air Defense Sector recently recognized five New York Air National Guardsmen for outstanding performance. Recognized Airmen included Senior Master Sgt. Jeremiah Martinez from New Hartford, N.Y., who received the Meritorious Service Medal. The 224th Air Defense Squadron's operations training superintendent, Martinez re-organized training and instruction, which increased the number of Airmen trained annually by 50 percent. Martinez was also recognized for integrating 460 lesson plans from seven different sources, establishing a new curriculum for 30 instructors, and for his superior performance during a major Air Combat Command inspection. Rome resident receives Air National Guard award
The 224th Air Defense Group (ADG) at the Eastern Air Defense Sector recently recognized five New York Air National Guardsmen for outstanding performance. Recognized Airmen included 2nd Lt. Ray Shively, from Rome, N.Y., who received the Air Force Commendation Medal. Recently commissioned, Shively was recognized for his work as an enlisted Airman, where he developed a new surveillance technician qualification program for more than 90 Airmen and supported 46 tactical actions during 72 Presidential movements. Other accomplishments included planning 40 training missions and scheduling more than 4,400 training hours. Angelina Palmer, from Canastota, N.Y., who received the Air Force Commendation Medal. Palmer was recognized for her work at EADS and at the Western Air Defense Sector in Tacoma, Washington, where she re-invigorated the unit's Drug Reduction Program, achieved 100 percent mission completion on two NORAD inspections, and incorporated 45 changes into a communications panel re-design, reducing time delays by 75 percent. Since joining the 224th Air Defense Squadron, Palmer has supported more than 70 Presidential temporary flight restrictions and coordinated intelligence with federal law enforcement and aviation agencies. Other accomplishments include controlling 65 fighter missions, supporting training for 92 pilots and nine flying units, and leading a mission planning cell for four geographically dispersed Battle Control Centers during a 2020 pandemic exercise. Prospect resident named NORAD's outstanding field grade officer
Two New York Air National Guardsmen and a civilian member serving at the Eastern Air Defense Sector have received annual awards from NORAD and the U.S. Northern Command. Recipients include Lt. Col. Jennifer King, from Prospect, N.Y., named NORAD's Outstanding Field Grade Officer. A flight commander, she successfully supervised 52 Airmen during a wide variety of operations, including 28 temporary flight restrictions for presidential travel and 10 large-scale exercises. King also served as launch coordinator for the SpaceX mission to replenish the International Space Station, served as key member of the command and control system modernization team and coordinated with multiple agencies on new cruise missile defense capabilities. Two New York Air National Guardsmen and a civilian member serving at the Eastern Air Defense Sector have received annual awards from NORAD and the U.S. Northern Command. NORAD and Northern Command are headquartered at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado. Recipients include Airman 1st Class Megan Mills, from Syracuse, N.Y., named NORAD's Junior Enlisted Airman of the Year award. A surveillance technician, Mills detected more than 860 potential threats during 22 Presidential support missions and played an instrumental role in Operation Allied Refuge, monitoring 14 flights to the U.S. from Afghanistan. An accomplished graphic artist, Mills designed an infographic for the Air National Guard Command Chief Master Sergeant's office and subsequently appeared on the Chief's leadership podcast. The 224th ADG is composed of the 224th ADS and 224th SPTS, located in Rome, and Detachment 1 and Detachment 2 that serve in the Washington, D.C. area. The 224th ADG provides the forces to conduct the Eastern Air Defense Sector's (EADS) mission. Boonville resident receives U.S. Northern Command outstanding civilian award

Morales received the Northern Command's Category I Civilian of the Year. The 224th Air Defense Group's Unit Program Coordinator, Morales scheduled and de-conflicted more than 1,600 events and supported dozens of Distinguished Visitor tours. She verified 75 security clearances as the acting Security Manager, served as the assistant editor of the unit newsletter and managed invitations for EADS 9/11 20th anniversary event.
