Liverpool resident John Kempisty promoted to Chief Master Sergeant in New York Air National Guard

Syracuse, New York (12/07/2022) — Liverpool resident John Kempisty has been promoted to chief master sergeant in the New York Air National Guard's 174th Attack Wing.

Kempisty, who serves in the wing's 174th Communications Squadron as cyberspace operations chief, was promoted by Major Melissa Forsyth, the squadron commander, during a Dec. 3 ceremony at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base.

During his career, Kempisty has served in aircraft maintenance, operations and communications career fields and served in positions at the squadron, group, and wing level in senior enlisted positions.

Kempisty enlisted in 1988 and has deployed to Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Qatar, Turkey, and Afghanistan in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom. He has also served in Great Britain.

The wing communications flight was just redesignated as a squadron, reflecting an increase in personnel and missions. This makes Kempisty to first squadron senior enlisted advisor.

"I am truly humbled to be the first communications squadron's chief" Kempisty said. "I understand that it did take a considerable amount of hard work to get here, but I am honored."

Kempisty's awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Achievement Medal, along with campaign medals for his wartime service.
