World War II Service of Cobleskill native Bradford Gaylor recognized by New York National Guard Honor Guard

Cobbleskill, NY (05/31/2018) — The World War II service of Cobleskill native Bradford Gaylor, who died in December 2017 in Augusta, Georgia at age 93, has been recognized by the New York Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Gaylor, who was born in Cobleskill in 1924, served as a Private First Class in the Army's 29th Infantry Division in Europe from January 1944 to December 1945.

Soldiers from the 29th Division landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 7, 1944. The division later took Brest, France and then fought its way into Germany. By May of 1945 the division had taken up positions along the Elbe River in Germany where the western Allies and Russian Army had agreed to meet. The division returned home and the Soldiers were released in January 1946.

An honors team conducted a graveside ceremony in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery, where Gaylor was buried, on May 25 in which they presented a flag, and ceremonially folded it, in Gaylor's honor.

The American flag which was ceremonially folded during the May 25 ceremony will be sent to Gaylor's son Michael Gaylor, a Callahan, Florida resident.

According to his service record, Gaylor joined the Army in January 1943 and was discharged in January 1946.

After returning from the Army, Gaylor lived in Cobleskill until 1998 when he moved to Georgia.
