Ford Edward resident Bryan Sommers is promoted to Sergeant Major in the New York Army National Guard

Latham, NY (10/09/2019) — Bryan Sommers, a Fort Edward resident, has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major in the New York Army National Guard.

He was promoted during a ceremony held on October 4 at Division of Military and Naval Affairs Headquarters in Latham.

Sommers, who is originally from Guilderland, is a senior human resource non- commissioned officer for the New York National Guard's military personnel office and will be assigned full-time as the human resource personnel Sergeant Major.

Sommers began his military career in 1997 when he enlisted in the United States Army.

He is a graduate of the Total Army Instructor Training Course, the Operational Radiation Safety Course and the United States Sergeants Major Academy.

His awards and decorations include; the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal r, the Army Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Driver and Mechanic Badge, and Excellence in Competition Pistol Badge.
