Kingston Based New York Army National Guard Soldiers Headed for Annual Training at Fort Drum, August 2-24

Kingston, NY (07/31/2019) — New York Army National Guard Soldiers from the 104th Military Police Battalion, headquartered in Kingston, will conduct their annual training at Fort Drum, New York, from August 2nd to the 24th.

Five hundred and twenty-six Soldiers from the detachment will conduct live fire training exercises with machine guns, firing at multiple targets from stationary and mobile vehicles.

The goal of the exercises is to improve the effectiveness and survivability of crews and teams, while building battalion level proficiency.

Motorists may see increased military traffic on highways and other roads as Army National Guard units move to and from Fort Drum.

The unit served in Iraq in 2007 and 2008 where the Soldiers were responsible for overseeing detainee camp operations.

The unit deployed troops to Washington in January 2009 to assist in providing security and crowd control during the presidential inauguration.

Members of the battalion also responded to the New York National Guard call-up of forces to assist communities devastated by Hurricane Irene in 2011 and Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
