NY Army National Guard Lt. Col. Joshua Heimroth, an Albany resident, takes charge of recruiting battalion
Latham, NY (05/28/2021) — New York Army National Guard Lt. Co. Joshua Heimroth, an Albany resident, assumed command of the New York National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion during a ceremony held Saturday, April 24 at the Saratoga Hilton.
The 260-member element, which has Soldiers stationed across the state, is responsible for enlisting new Army National Guard Soldiers and helping current Soldiers continue their service.
Heimroth is replacing Lt. Col. Bryan Hyer, a Stillwater resident who is retiring after 26 years of service.
In his remarks, Major General Ray Shields, the Adjutant General of New York and the commander of the New York Army National Guard praised Hyer for his success at keeping the ranks of the New York Army National Guard filled since he took on the recruiting duties in 2016.
He charge Heimroth with continuing this tradition and said he had confidence in his ability to do so.
Prior to taking on this job, Heimroth served as Shields' executive officer.
Heimroth enlisted in the Army in 1997 and served as a cannon crewman in the 82nd Airborne Division.
He became an officer in 2006, serving in the Military Intelligence Corps.
His assignments have included battalion operations officer, personnel officer, a joint personnel officer, a company commander in the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade, and assistant intelligence officer for the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade.
He served in Afghanistan as a staff officer of the Special Operations forces supporting the NATO Training Mission there.
Heimroth holds a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing & Management from Siena College and a Master's Degree in Human Resources Management from Webster University.
He is a graduate of the Army Airborne and Air Assault Courses, the Army Jumpmaster Course, the Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course, the Adjutant General Captains Career Course and Command and General Staff College.
Heimroth's awards include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the NATO Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the senior parachutist badge, the Air Assault Badge, and the German and French parachutist badges.
He has one daughter, Shayna.
