Watervliet resident Kathleen Thomas promoted to Staff Sergeant in the New York National Guard

Latham, NY (07/17/2019) — Kathleen Thomas, a Watervliet resident, was promoted to Staff Sergeant in the New York Army National Guard during a July 11, ceremony at New York National Guard headquarters in Latham.

Thomas, who enlisted in the New York Army National Guard as a human resources specialist in February 2015, deployed to Kuwait and Iraq with the 10th Mountain Division in 2018.

She is currently serving as a full-time Army National Guard Soldier as an aide to Brigadier General Michel Natali, the Assistant Adjutant General for the New York Army National Guard.

Thomas holds a degree in Public Communications and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the College of St. Rose in Albany. She is a graduate of Ichabod Crane High School in Valatie.

She attended the Army's Basic Leaders Course in 2017 and the Advanced Leaders Course in 2019.

Thomas is the daughter of John Thomas of Stockport, N.Y. and Diane Thomas of Estero, Florida.

Thomas was previously employed at Time Warner Cable Media and at Integra Optics.

Thomas was also awarded the Army Achievement Medal during the ceremony.
