Army National Guard Soldiers begin military careers
Major General Ray Shields, the Adjutant General of New York, announces the recent service accomplishment of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their initial commitment to serve community, state and nation. The newest Citizen Soldiers to complete Army basic combat training and advanced individual training will now be welcomed to their units during their next drill assembly with the New York Army National Guard. The transition marks their completion of the National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program, a preparatory training program that provides new recruits with training, lessons and skills to excel at their initial military training. The New York Army National Guard welcomed 15 new Soldiers to their units during the February ceremonies around the state.

Ballston Spa resident Joshua Hague promoted to master sergeant in New York Air National Guard
Joshua Hague, a resident of Ballston Spa, was recently promoted to master sergeant in the New York Air National Guard. Hague is the intelligence superintendent of the 109th Operations Support Squadron at Stratton Air National Guard Base, Scotia, New York. Hague is a 2006 graduate of Newfield High School and earned his Associate of Applied Science Degree in Intelligence Studies and Technology in 2015 through the Community College of the Air Force. He enlisted with the 109th Airlift Wing in 2008. Hague's awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal. Hague resides in Ballston Spa with his wife, Lyndsay, and daughter, Kenna. He is the son of Lauri Hillick of Newfield.

Thomas Fancher, a Valatie, NY resident, promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 4
New York Army National Guard Warrant Officer Thomas Fancher, a Valatie, N.Y. resident, was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 4 during a Thursday, Feb. 14 ceremony at New York National Guard headquarters A warrant officer is a technical specialist who falls in between the commissioned officer and non-commissioned officer ranks in the military. Fancher enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1991, where he attend basic training and advance individual training at Fort Benning, Georgia as an anti-armor infantryman. On September 11th, 2001 he mobilized state active duty in support of civilian operations at ground zero. In 2004 Fancher deployed with the 42nd Infantry Division as the fire support noncommissioned officer in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom then in 2011 to Camp Beurhing, Kuwait as a Warrant Officer and served as an artillery targeting technician. In 2018, Fancher was assigned to the Joint Force Headquarters as the Force Integration and Readiness Officer where he currently serves full time for the New York Army National Guard. Fancher's awards and decorations include; the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal with bronze star, Meritorious Unit Citation, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon.
